R1 Remote control software is a graphical drag and drop user interface enabling the construction of a screen based virtual control surface for d&b systems, using the d&b Remote network. All major features, functions and controls available on the front panel of the amplifiers may be remotely controlled and/or monitored using R1. The architecture of R1 allows control of each channel of the amplifier as a single entity and enables the creation of groups of loudspeakers in as little, or as much detail as required by the application. When grouped together, a button or fader can control the overall system level, zone level, equalization and delay, power ON /OFF, MUTE and loudspeaker function switches such as CUT/HFA/HFC or CPL

R1 has extensive facilities for storing and recalling system settings allowing these to be repeated, as and when required. It is easy to adjust R1 project files for use with a different set of equipment at another location. Password protection is available to restrict access. R1 runs on PCs operating Microsoft Windows   2000/XP/Vista. A virtual machine enables R1 to run on the newer Intel Macin parallel to the Mac OS X, using the Windows driver for R60 USB to CAN interface. For older, Power PC based Macintosh computers, a Windows emulation needs to be used, together with the R60 driver for Mac/PPC. For R70 Ethernet to CAN, no driver is needed. Data R10

The R10 Service software for personal computer platforms enables the update of multiple amplifiers from a central location via the d&b Remote network. R10 Service software is focused specifically on service and administration issues of a d&b system.

The R10 Service software has a variety of applications. It enables the simultaneous amplifier firmware update with the latest amplifier firmware of up to 63 amplifiers from a central location. The software detects which type of d&b amplifier is connected and the user can select the matching firmware required for the update. Settings can be read from an amplifier, saved to file and loaded to an amplifier using this service software. Defined settings may be created and loaded into amplifiers, for example to ensure that configuration switches are set to a known status or the user definable equalization is set flat. In a rental situation standard amplifier settings may be created and applied to all amplifiers when they are returned to stock. In an installation, settings can be copied to additional amplifiers. Using R10, AmpPresets can be adjusted to the application requirements. 

A Wink function that flashes the amplifier display backlight and a Honk function that produces an audible tone are included to provide an effective method of locating specific amplifiers or loudspeakers within a system. For service purposes, information may be read from an amplifier concerning its condition during an application and errors reported. When additional support is required, the error report can be saved and sent to d&b's service departments for further assessment and diagnosis.

Data R60

R60 - USB to CAN interface for connecting the d&b Remote network (CAN-Bus) to a PC via USB.
The R60 connects to E-PAC/ D6/ D12 over CAT 5 shielded twisted pairs. Up to five R60 USB to CAN interfaces can be operated with one computer running R1 (Remote Software), while a
maximum of 504 amplifiers can be incorporated
into the application. The maximum bus cable length of a d&b Remote network is 600 metres.

Data R70

R70 - Ethernet to CAN interface for connecting the d&b Remote network (CAN-Bus) to a PC via Ethernet (TCP/IP or UDP/IP). Up to five R70 interfaces in TCP/IP mode can be connected
to a PC and simultaneously operated with R1 (Remote Software). The R70 contains a web interface for configuration using a standard web browser. The Ethernet network can be either a; LAN Cat 5 STP, WLAN or fibre optic network.

For both acoustical and safety reasons J-Series, Q-Series and T-Series arrays must be designed using the d&b ArrayCalc calculator, a simulation tool for planning system configurations. This includes defining the quantity and optimum aiming of loudspeakers, calculating subwoofer arrays and the time alignment of these to the main arrays, documenting weights and overall dimensions of arrays as well as producing printable rigging plots and parts lists. ArrayCalc calculates and displays the physical parameters of up to five individual arrays including the mechanical load conditions within a column, load safety information and load values for rigging points, warnings are displayed should an overload occur.

ArrayCalc uses a sophisticated mathematical model synthesizing each loudspeaker's wave front with an array of narrowly spaced point sources. Using complex data (phase information) level distribution is calculated in multiple frequency bands for up to three main audience areas and optionally for side seating tiers. ArrayCalc also calculates resulting dispersion of horizontally arrayed subwoofers at different LF bands and the delay values to achieve desired far-field coverage. The display of the phase responses of both Main and Sub Array at a selectable test point allows an applicable time alignment to be defined between flown and ground stacked parts of the system.

The d&b ArrayCalc calculator from Version 5 onwards offers programs for use either on Microsoft Windows, Version XP or higher, or Mac OS X, Version 10.4.10 or higher. The latter is expected to be available in February 2009.
